De-Clutter Challenge

What do you associate with the springtime? I think about rain, sunshine and, of course, spring cleaning. Now that my free time isn’t revolving around getting ready for Nashville, I’m itching to get my house in order. I have three main projects I want to tackle:

1. Paint (indoors) and landscape (outdoors). Both things I hate and therefore, both things I put off.

2. Put together a Bowers family binder filing system. I read about something like this here, and I thought “I’m pretty sure Ryan would be lost if anything ever happened to me.” This is of no fault to him: I like being in charge of things, and I’m a CPA, so naturally I handle the finances and taxes. And to be fair, I would have no idea what to do if the Internet stopped working or the alarm system started going off.  And heaven forbid if my iPhone wasn’t working. Since we should both really know the in’s and out’s of our house, finances, etc., this system is a necessity for us.

3.  De-clutter. This one is a big one. I don’t consider Ryan and myself to be hoarders of any kind, but we do have a lot of “stuff”. We’re both bad about hanging onto things for sentimental value, which I don’t see any problem with, as long as there is a place for everything. The problem occurs when that “place” becomes unorganized and starts spilling into other places.

I’ll share pictures of projects #1 and #2 as they are completed. I’m sure I’ll be asking for suggestions along the way!

In the spirit of de-cluttering, I wanted to share a challenge from one of the blogs I follow. Every day in the month of May, the  blogger is getting rid of seven things in her house and is challenging readers to do the same. At the end of the month, that will be 217 things you can live without GONE. Wowza – that sounds like a lot, but I’m sure it will be easier than I think. I can mentally count at least 7 articles of clothing I should be donating, and I know there are way more than seven things I can get rid of on my desk.

The day we’ve all been waiting for…

Or should I say, the day me, several of my co-workers and Katie have been waiting for!

That’s right – the Nashville marathon is this Saturday. Oh, brother!

I’m so excited!

I’m so pumped!

I’m so nervous I could throw up.

This past month has been a mix of emotions, to say the least, and this week has been no different, so my nerves are all over the place. I know on a scale of 1 to borderline panicky, I score pretty high when it comes to being nervous (and blowing things out of proportion). But I can’t be the only one who gets anxious before a race…right?

True to form, life threw a few curve balls at me during my training. So unfortunately, I won’t be running the 9:30 pace I was pushing for. However, I made COMMITMENT my word of the year, and I am still committed to this race. And no matter what my time is, I still have Jimmy Buffett to look forward to, where, to borrow a phrase from a Florida Georgia Line song, I’ll be worrying about nothing except what’s in my glass!

See you later, Ohio! I’m on my way to Tennessee.

11 Questions

I recently saw this “11 Questions” post on another blog and thought it looked like fun. The questions are definitely ones I’ve never thought / been asked, so they were fun to answer! Enjoy – and happy almost Friday!

1. In baseball each player gets a “walk up song” that plays on his way up to the plate. What song would you pick?

Oh man, I know exactly what I would pick: “Chicken Fried” by the Zac Brown Band. Intimidating? No way. But it sure makes me happy.

2. What’s the best thing that happened to you last weekend?

Gestures of love and support from my family and friends. Love you guys – thank you.

3. If you could have a starring role in any film already made, which movie would you pick?

I would pick the role of Aurelia, played by Lucia Moniz in the movie Love Actually. The story between her and Jamie is so beautiful: they don’t speak the same language, yet they fall in love with each other. It doesn’t hurt that Jamie is played by Colin Firth. Love that man’s accent.

4. What actor/actress would you have play you in a movie of your life?

Good question. I have no idea why a movie would ever be made of my life, so I haven’t thought about this before. But let’s check the Celebrity Look-A-Like Generator to see who I look like:

Wow. Um, okay…I am flattered by these results, but I still call bologna on the three blonds. Based on my look-a-likes, I’m going to go with Eva Mendes. I think she would really capture the essence of my personality and would successfully showcase my life as art.

Ha! Just kidding. I just think she’s absolutely gorgeous. And she’s dating Ryan Gosling, who is almost as good-looking and charming as my Ryan. 🙂

5. What is your favorite quote?

This one is tough. I have about 100 favorite quotes, but there is one that helps me get through the bad times, and also reminds me to be thankful during the good times. It’s from a Darius Rucker song:

“It won’t be like this for long.”

The song is about a dad and his little girl, but I often remind myself of this one small sentence “It won’t be like this for long” whenever I need strength to get through one of life’s obstacles, and also when I get so wrapped up in silly things that I forget to take a step back and just enjoy the moment. Because one thing is certain about life: it goes on. Whether you want it to or not.

6. What was your first concert?

My first concert was AMAZING: it was the Backstreet Boys at Blossom Music Center. My entire family (Dad included) and our very close family friends, the Drakes (Mr. Drake and their son included), went to the concert. Me, my sister and our friend Samantha screamed and sang until we lost our voices. If that’s not true love for your children, I don’t know what is. Thanks, Mom and Dad 🙂

7. What Internet website do you visit the most?

Oh, probably Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest: the Bermuda triangle of procrastination.

8. Which of Snow White’s 7 dwarfs describes you the best and why?

Most of the time, I would say Happy – because I’m a happy girl. As of late, I would throw Sleepy in there as well, for the (obvious) reason: I’m running on fumes.

9. If you were on death row, what would your last meal be?

Grilled cheese with hot sauce, stuffed grape leaves, chips with salsa and hummus and a dirty martini with blue cheese stuffed olives. With ice cream cake for dessert. And maybe a Coca Cola thrown in there as well.

10. What is the background of your computer?

My work computer’s background is the company logo (boring), but my personal computer’s background is a picture of Ryan and me, taken on July 4, 2011. When Ryan set up my computer for me, this is what he put as the background. It’s one of my favorite pictures of us and makes me smile whenever I see it. I sure have a handsome husband!

11. And the eleventh question is… to you!  Answer one of the ten above! Very excited to see your answers, so please play along 🙂

Motivation Monday

Motivation can come from the most unexpected places. But maybe it’s from these out-of-the-blue, hits-you-hard-because-you’re-not-expecting-it moments that we find the best inspiration.

I never expected to read something that would make me cry, lift my spirits and give me hope on a fitness blog, of all places. But I did, and I wanted to share it. Hopefully this gives just one other person out there comfort and a little peace.

Every trial and tribulation is a lesson in life. If you can feel something, you’re living. So right now, take a moment and just remember this journey…Love your life now. Love your body now. Love what you have ~ because you’re wealthy with love, health and good people around you. We’re all in this together. We promise that anything you’re going through right now you can overcome…What we all take for granted, other people wish and pray for.

Happy Motivation Monday, all.
